Almost September
It's an odd time of year, the end of August.
Depending on where you are in the US, you and/or your children might already be back to school. In our area, this isn't happening for another week or so. This year, it depends on your district if you are starting before or after Labor Day.
Even if you don't have kids and summer is just a continuation of your day-to-day work, you can still feel the approach of Fall. Pre-season football is on. The days are getting shorter. Maybe your grocery store was busier than usual because the college kids are back. And next week, you'll wonder why the roads are so much busier than usual, and then you'll be stopped by a bus for a little kid whose backpack is larger than they are, and it'll click.
We can feel the transition in our work, too. We've done a handful of porches or railings this year, but the calls for those have mostly stopped. People are planning larger projects now for later this Fall - everyone wants one last vacation, and no one wants to worry about contractors in their house while trying to get their teen out the door for the first day of school. It feels less carefree. These projects need a plan, and families need a plan to deal with them. A kitchen or bathroom offline is no small matter.
Our advice is to call your contractor or handyman or whoever (hopefully us) sooner rather than later to get on their schedule. The earlier you call and get on their schedule, you are more likely to get your preferred dates and then can start making your plan of what you need to shift around for this to work for your family.
If you need some help thinking through that, or what in your home might need the most attention, we wrote a post last year while dreaming about winning the lottery. You can read it here.
In the meantime, happy fall, y'all, and Go Bills.
